Stonehouse Methodist Church
On Friday 12th July the Church was host to the Gloucester and District Christian Choir Concert. The concert contained a variety of music, from hymns, psalms, songs from the musicals, and gospel songs. There were some marvellous solos sung by various members of the choir, and one 'surprise' item where the audience were asked to join in, which was fun. There was an interval for refreshments - much needed as it was a hot night - and a raffle. Approximately 30 people came along, mostly family and friends of the choir; there were only six people from our church, other than the social committee and helpers, which was disappointing. Many thanks to the Social Committee for all their hard work organising the event; those of us who supported the event appreciated their efforts and thoroughly enjoyed the evening. The Social Committee would like to give a special 'thankyou' to Mary, Connie and Rachel for their help in the kitchen with the refreshments and washing-up.The event raised £180, which considering the poor turnout was quite good. 20% of this (£36) was donated to the choir, who had given their services free of charge, and the rest went to bolster church funds.
The Summer Fayre
The day started with glorious sunshine, which lasted all day. By 1.30pm people were queueing up at the door. We had a variety of stalls - bric-a-brac, a guessing corner, books and toys, also Fair Trade, The Light, a cake stall and cream teas. The cream teas run by Dolores and Mary were a great success, which resulted in having to get more! The cake stall sold out early as usual. We also held a raffle.
This event was quite well attended and we managed to raise £320 for church funds.
